Zlapped: Hi guys, and welcome to episode number 18. Today’s question is from Izzat

Izzat asks, “Hi Zlapped, I’m your number one fan. Okay, here’s the question. How do you count the damage that you will deal to your opponents? For example, you have a 400 magic damage skill, you want to use it against a hero that has for example magic vestment, mystic vestment of course, and of course the heroes magic armour itself. How do you count the damage? I’m sorry if this question is too ASDF…jk lol. Haha. PS – please come to Malaysia.”

Thank you, Izzat, for a very good question. This is actually something I that I will be doing in a future video. So, let’s do this as simple as possible.

We’ve got a lvl 15 Hellbringer with 1000 HP. A Hellbringer originally has six magic armour. When you add a mystic vestment on top of it, he has eleven. Eleven magic armour equates to 39.8% magic damage reduction. We’re gonna put it at 40%. Then he has 3.6 armour, which is 18% damage reduction, we’re gonna put it at 20%.

The biggest thing, when you’re doing the fast math in the game is to never undercalculate. Always over calculate. So, if you’re not that good at fast math, what you can do is you can go above a little bit, like I did. I did from 18% to 20%, which means my auto attacks deal less. Just to simplify it.

I’m a lvl 10 Pirate Master who does 100 damage per auto attack, and then I have all my spells. So I do 100 damage per auto attack, right? And he has 20% damage reduction. That means that I will do 80% – so 80 damage – per auto attack instead. I then have a Q, a W, and an Ultimate. My Q does 310 magic damage, my W does 280 magic damage, and my Ultimate does 450 because it is lvl 1 Ultimate. That means, in total, I do 1,040 magic damage to the Hellbringer with my Q, my W, and my Ultimate. And then, since I will be auto attacking once before stunning, and then I will be attacking twice while he’s stunned, I will do 300 damage in in total for my auto attacks.

Now, we’re going to have to remove 20% of that of course, from each auto attack, which means that we do 300 in total minus 60, which is 240. So, now, if we add 1,040 from all of our spells, minus the 40%, plus the auto attacks, we will do 624 damage plus 240, which equates to 864 HP. So I can do 864 HP in three auto attacks and all my spells by overcalculating it a little bit. So, I will actually do a tiny bit more, but this Hellbringer has 1,024 HP, if I use all my things, I will do, on average, 864 damage. Which means I cannot kill Hellbringer. Which means that if Hellbringer is fast enough, he’ll be to Alt+E, turn on me, or just get out safely. And that means that this play is not worth making at all.

That is the simplest I can explain how to calculate magic armour and fiscal armour when I’m going to be killing a hero. But, I do it on the actual numbers because fast math for me is very easy so I’m able to do it in the game in just a matter of two or three seconds. And that’s why I sometimes on stream when I’m playing I’m like “Hmmmm yeah I can kill him”. Because that’s how I do it. But, if it’s a situation where I only have two seconds to think, even I will sometimes do the 20% and 40% and overcalculate it just to make sure that he’s going to die because I don’t have the time to, I don’t have those three seconds to calculate intricately to know exactly what the ultimate outcome will be.

So, anyway, that’s how I calculate it, and there will be a video on this in the future. Good question.
