Shawl Design

Melanie chats about her work with the Yarn Collective and the design of the Portland Lace yarn and development of the colour palette. Focusing on the grey in the collection the colour palette grew from there with pops of colour. The asymmetric shawl Secret Keeper came from a need to play with construction and shape and to allow the hand-dyed yarn to shine. Find out more in the podcast.

Creative Process

Melanie also lets us in on a few little secrets on how she manages to get all those beautiful Instagram images of her shawls along with how she grew from the idea of designing into a professional business. She also has a few tips for budding designers out there and how Mairlynd grew as a brand.

You can find Melanie on Ravelry, Instagram and her website.

I really hope you enjoy today’s podcast with both Melanie and Lisa, it was a lot of fun to record in This is Knit and I hope you all get to hear more from there soon. If you have time I would love it if you could leave a comment below or leave a review in iTunes and let us know your thoughts.
