This show was an experiment in audio engineering. Back in March of 2015 while spending time in Boulder, Colorado, I had an idea for a podcast. I wanted to interview my entrepreneur friends. Nothing novel, nothing unique.

I wanted to call the show Driven because I thought it was cool and because that seemed to be the common factor in the people I wanted to talk to. However, unlike most entrepreneur interview podcasts, I wanted to do my interviews in person, which meant I had to drive to them. Then it hit me! I could conduct the interviews in my car! The plan then became to drive around the country, picking up my friends to interview them in my car.

After about a month of thinking about it, I knew it would be a lot to do an entire show like this, but I still liked the idea enough to invest in a suction cup for my GoPro so I could turn these interviews into video content.

Long story short, I decided that if it was feasible, I would do episodes in my car. This is one of those episodes and it just so happens to be my second one.

Travis is my friend. We have each other stored in our cell phones (that’s true friendship in my book). We met last year on the Listen Money Matters podcast when he came on to talk about saving money while traveling. It turns out he and I both lived near Philadelphia and we decided to meet in real life.

I remember our first date (cough) meeting. We talked for about six hours straight over canned beers in the city. It was great. We became fast friends.

He’s my go-to business buddy. We talk shop when we can. He travels A LOT, and I don’t, and sometimes it’s hard to get together, even on our cell phones (in which we each have our numbers stored — did I mention that?).

It turns out Travis was home just in time to record my second episode in person and I decided it could be a car episode.

I will admit that I fucked up. I had the settings wrong on my field recorder and I had to do some serious compression and EQ in post, but overall the content was there, and it’s two hours long. We can both talk for hours, even while driving.

In this episode I find out a lot I didn’t know about how Travis became a sought after travel blogger/hacker. I was surprised to learn that he wasn’t born on an airplane.

Instead of going into the details, I’ll let you listen. Also, you can watch the video version if you enter your email address below.

Enjoy!
