Type 1 diabetes is a disease that stays with you for the rest of your life. This means you have to take medications such as pills and injections to keep you going. There are times you will get worried about the complications that could occur, but you don’t have to. You worry too much about the negative impact of diabetes in your life. In this podcast, Hope points out that there is a positive side to diabetes. With proper diet, exercise, and right mindset, you can live beyond diabetes!

Hope shares 3 steps you can do to live beyond diabetes:

1. You must ask yourself series of questions such as:

– “What am I going to think about?”
– “What am I going to do?”
– “What am I going to eat?”

Once you implement this step, and think about “will this help me?”, the amount of steps and constant worry will start to decrease. You also have to ask yourself, “will this help support my goals?” and “will this break the stereotypes of diabetes?”

2. Challenge your doctor. They don’t ask questions and they don’t make room for you to ask questions. Challenge your doctor in everything they say or do because at the end of the day, you care about yourself more than anyone else and you deserve to have the attention you need to prosper.

3. Create a visual. Hope talked about her paper chain link challenge as an example. Having a visual allows you to see your progress in whatever you are doing, no matter what your goal is.
