Confessions of a Working Writer

Every young writer I have ever talked to talks about the imminent publication of their future novel. They know what the cover will look like. People will love it and we will remember it for years to come. I was the same way. Even used to have a speech prepared for my acceptance of big awards.
They never came.
Most writers have the same problems with frustrations and rejection. The fact is that most of our success, at least in the business of writing, is based on factors that are entirely out of our control.
So why do we waste so much time on those things beyond our control? Because we're human. But that doesn't mean we can't do better.
