Welcome to episode 4 of “In Her Own Words.” This month we’re talking about the empowerment of young women through a program at the YWCA called GOLD, Girl’s Only Leadership Development.
GOLD aims to educate young women in 8th grade about various life issues that range from self-defense to healthy relationships.
Amanda Okaka is the program coordinator for GOLD and Harriet Lewis-Bohen is a 14 year old Cambridge resident and member of GOLD.
The two young women sat down and spoke with us about the program, the great lessons that the young women are taught during the group’s weekly sessions at the YWCA and why it is so important to begin empowering girls early on in life.
