Hello and welcome to the third episode of the Football Media Podcast which is part of the Team of John O'Sheas network.
I'm Jon Mackenzie and, across the course of the new season, I'm going to be bringing you a weekly podcast that seeks to open up the often-murky underworld of the football media. Each episode will bring you an interview with an expert in as many diverse areas within the industry as possible. We've got writers, authors, artists, journalists, broadcasters, event co-ordinators, lawyers, commentators - if you can name it, we've got it.
This week, I'm speaking to Dr Dan Parnell – senior lecturer in Business Management at Manchester Metropolitan University.
In the course of our conversation, we discuss the role of academia in football, the relationship between academia and the football media, and spend some time discussing Dan’s chapter on Sporting Directors in a recent anthology.
If you enjoy this podcast, please share it with your friends, subscribe, rate and review on iTunes in order to help us gain exposure and, if you are a social media person, you can follow us on Twitter @FootyMediaPod or, alternatively, you can follow the Team of John O’Sheas network @TOJOS_.
Next week, we will be talking to Stefan Bienkowski about the Scottish context within the football media, subscription models and his own website TheTwoPointOne. But until then, here’s Dr Dan Parnell and the phenomenon of football academia. Enjoy!
