Hello and welcome to the fifteenth episode of the Football Media Podcast on the Team of John O'Sheas platform.

I'm Jon Mackenzie and, across the course of the new season, I'm going to be bringing you a weekly podcast that seeks to open up the often-murky underworld of the football media.

This week, I'm speaking to Paul Hyland – a freelance journalist who has just completed a PhD in Modern and Medieval Languages at the University of Cambridge.

In the course of our conversation, we discuss his experiences of moving from academia into football writing, the benefits and crossovers between the two and the ways in which literature can inform football.

If you enjoy this podcast, please share it with your friends, subscribe, rate and review on iTunes in order to help us gain exposure and, if you are a social media person, follow us on Twitter @FootyMediaPod.

Next week, we will be speaking to Benjamin Roberts about football in Northern Ireland and the experience of writing a book, but before that, it's Paul Hyland, academia, football writing and the place of literature.

Enjoy!
