From Blockbuster Video to Film Festivals, we tell stories & talk our favorite genre. ***This is a Mostly Non-Spoiler Episode*** There’s some early Act 1 giveaways, and then some mentions of some big moments or big scares at certain points in other films. But of course, we don’t give anything away. What is This Episode? - Top of Show The Mikes’ Horror History - 1:34 Honorable Mention - 4:11 THE MIKES TOP 5 HORROR MOVIE EXPERIENCES Our Shared No. 5 - 7:09 AlsoMike’s No. 4 - 11:49 AlsoMike’s No. 3 - 15:20 Mike1’s No. 4 + No. 3 - 18:07 AlsoMike’s No. 2 - 23:07 Mike1’s No. 2 - 27:13 AlsoMike’s No. 1 - 33:46 Mike1’s Number….uh….1 - 39:03 Why is Horror Universally Relatable - 46:24 What We’re Expecting From “Us” - 49:58 Questions for You/Social Media/Words of Wisdom - 54:11 Another way to get ready for Jordan Peele’s “Us” is to go back in time & talk about why we love horror movies. Sometimes they’re good & one memorable scare will scar us forever. Sometimes they’re great, and we never look at the world the same again. But other times they’re so bad, they’re perhaps the best experience of our film going year. We talk about our Top 5 Horror Movie Experiences in this special weekend episode! This isn’t our first foray into the tried & true Top 5 world of podcasting & youtubing & John Cusack’ing. We’ve ranked our favorite scenes & films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Mission Impossibles, & of course, we nominate 5’s in the Mike, Mike, and Oscars - OUR annual award show. But we also started a specific Top 5 series that began with our Top 5 Music Movie Performances, & you can find our Top 5s playlist of episodes on Soundcloud. Regardless of whether you’re addicted to Top 5 shows & videos like we are, this turned into quite the fun conversation about the horror genre, & of course, we tell some of our favorite moviegoing stories. From trips to Blockbuster to fancy film festivals, we thought it the perfect time to recap all our greatest horror movie experiences. The Mikes of Oscar are committed to covering horror films year round, & if you’ve listened before, you know we’ve been campaigning hard for some of the best horror films & performances come awards season. The Academy is slowly, but surely coming around to acknowledging the genre, but not enough. So we’ve made it a mission of our show to be all over our favorite horror films. Last year, we reviewed the entire Halloween franchise, the Conjuring Universe, both Suspiria films, Hereditary, & Overlord. In 2017, we championed Jordan Peele’s “Get Out” from the first episode through the Oscars. We’ve also contributed to the AllTheHorror podcast collaboration on two occasions with an American Psycho retrospective this past WomenInHorrorMonth & last October with a fun chat about the best slashers our ATH friends could invent. Of course, we want to know your favorite experiences with horror films. Send us your responses, & we’ll read some on the show! We’re at MMandOscar on Twitter, and we are on Instagram, Facebook, Reddit, and Gmail. You can subscribe / rate / review / like / share / & listen to us on iTunes, Soundcloud, Stitcher, Google Play, Tune In, Spotify, and just about wherever you listen to podcasts. When reality sucks, keep watching movies with us. We’re Mike, Mike, & Oscar!
