This is day 177 of our journey.
Today we read 4 psalms of trust and hope in God.
Psalm 86 is a psalm of David. He appeals to God's mercy as he asks for deliverance from his enemies.
Psalm 87, written by the Korahites, celebrates the Lord's presence in Zion as well as the special status of its citizens.
In Psalm 88, the psalmist cries out in pain to the Lord, begging him for relief from his intense and constant suffering. He regards God's judgement as the ultimate cause of his distress, but nevertheless clings to God as his only source of hope.
In Psalm 89, the psalmist praises God as the sovereign creator of the world. He recalls God's covenant with David, but then laments that the promises of that covenant have yet to be realized. The covenant promised military victories to the Davidic line, but the king has now been subjected to humiliating defeat.
Join me in Psalms 86-89 and trust in God when all seems lost.
Key verses:
Psalms 86:2
Protect me, for I am loyal! You are my God; deliver your servant who trusts in you!
Psalms 87:5
But it is said of Zion’s residents, “Each one of these was born in her, and the Most High makes her secure.”
Psalms 88:13
As for me, I cry out to you, O Lord; in the morning my prayer confronts you.
Psalms 89:35
Once and for all I have vowed by my own holiness,I will never deceive David.
