Dorian Gray, a young man of wealth and stature in late 1800's London, meets Lord Henry Wotton while posing for a portrait by his friend Basil Hallward. Once the painting is complete, Dorian realizes that it will always be young and attractive, while he will be forced to age and wither with the years. Carelessly, he wishes the opposite were true. What happens is a treatise on morals, self-indulgence and how crucial personal responsibility is towards one's self. (Summary by John Gonzalez)

A novel that disturbs you 160 years after it first appeared in print, The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, has so much relevance and resonance even today. Dorian Gray is a strikingly handsome young man whose beauty attracts a debauched aristocrat Sir Henry Wotton. Dorian's picture has been painted by a talented artist Basil Hallward and Sir Henry becomes desperate to meet Dorian, though Basil himself is against it. Your host Paul Waller (not Weller) is a horror movie addict. During 2020 the workload for his band and music management job slowed right down. At this same time he discovered the movie social networking platform LETTERBOXD. Armed with this database he decided to fill in the gaps of his horror film knowledge. Within week one he was averaging 3 a day. This podcast is the result of that horror compulsion - A YEAR IN HORROR

Welcome to the Portrait of Knox Podcast! The podcast where I read The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde out loud every other week. Why am I doing this? To practice doing different voices so I can be a good DM for my friends when I run my D&D campaign! And because I've wanted to read this book for over six years now. I also provide a mid-episode segment I like to call "The Whiskey Corner" where I try local spirits and give my layman's take on them- however I include a sober episode option ...

Literary critics see Arthur Machen’s works as a significant part of the late Victorian revival of the gothic novel and the decadent movement of the 1890s, bearing direct comparison to the themes found in contemporary works like Robert Louis Stevenson’s The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray. The White People is a highly influential horror story of a young girl’s discovery of ancient magic. It was written in the late 1890 ...

ABC Mystery Time came on the air late enough in the Golden Age of Radio that all of the episodes should have survived. This is doubly sad because it was such a terrific program. The network and its affiliates tinkered with the title of the program at times, calling it Masters Of Mystery, Mystery Time Classics, and just plain old Mystery Time. The official name of the program, hosted by Don Dowd, was always ABC Mystery Time. The program did have enough to attract some serious star power, incl ...
