Black Friday is showing signs it's no longer as important as it once was. Retail expert Craig Johnson at Customer Growth Partners says Black Friday may fail to qualify as one of the top three shopping days of the year.
Long-time listeners are very familiar with my "Full Price or Free" mantra. I position things at one of two options: Either full price or free. What's the problem with discounts? Everyone loves discounts, right? Yes, they do. That is, until they don't. What do I mean? Do you remember the last time you bought something only to see it get discounted the following day or next week? How did that make you feel? Did you enjoy feeling duped? Discounted prices punish early buyers. Discounts not only devalue your products, but they also create poor customer experiences when your buyer finds out next week that they should have waited to buy from you later. In this episode, Ben and I navigate the seas of pricing and make a case for why you shouldn't discount and how to sell without discounting.

If you've stepped into a mobile phone store recently, you know the cell phone market is not exactly dummy-proof right now. Carriers have created a series of charts and graphs to explain a newly complicated web of options for cell phone users. On its face, the change to the market makes it look like plans got more convoluted and phones got much more expensive. But the first mover in the market shift, T-Mobile, actually just made phone pricing radically more transparent and plans more customize-able. If you do your homework, it might be the best time to score a deal on the cell phone market. Listen to Money Talking host Charlie Herman wade through the details with Tim Stenovec from TechInsider and Ian Kar from Quartz, just in time for your holiday shopping.

Turkey is to pay the price of shooting down a Russian warplane: a series of economic sanctions imposed on Ankara by Moscow. Trade, transport and tourism are being restricted and investment projects could be halted. Fadi Hakura of Royal Institute for International Affairs explains how much damage these sanctions will do to Turkey's economy. Leaders from almost 200 countries are preparing to head for Paris to try to hammer out a universal agreement on tackling climate change. We consider how the outcome of that summit might affect how much coal the world consumes, with Andrew Simms, a fellow of the New Economics Foundation and Benjamin Sporton, chief executive of the World Coal Association. This time next year the US will know who Barack Obama's successor is. Donald Trump is still the most popular among the candidates for the Republican nomination, despite, or perhaps because of, his willingness to cast aside convention and even civility in his language and comments. The latest was a reference...
