Reinforcement, which is always rewarding and will increase responding, is defined by the presentation or withdrawal of positive or negative reinforcers, which also involves two types of punishment.

Conditioning involves rewarding or punishing an organism when it responds, which results in a change in the frequency or form of behavior. A typical conditioning experiment involves acquisition, extinction, and, sometimes, spontaneous recovery.
