Mindfulness: A popular term used for meditation and thoughtful reflection on one's inner being is not a new idea to Christianity. However, our mindfulness is described as setting our minds on things above! Instead of looking inward, we look upward to the One who has declared us His own in our baptism and by the gift of faith. Our value is determined not by our own inward reflection but in what He has said about us in sacrificial love.

The idea that we have to earn the good things of life is hard wired into human nature. But it won’t save us from the destiny of destruction our sin sick soul is leading us toward. Any attempts at repairing our life are insufficient. We need a totally new life, and that’s exactly what Jesus has given us as a completely free gift. Therefore, we live …

It’s not just enough to know what God’s law says. We also need to understand what it means and the heart of God behind it. That means that Jesus isn’t just the key to the gospel; he’s also the key to the law. The concept of eternity is difficult to grasp. We could describe eternity as “timeless” but we use “timeless” differently than “eternity”. For example, a diamond ring is timeless beauty. The ruins of Egypt are timeless. But Pastor Greg’s sermons are an eternity; they are not timeless. Jesus had 33 years of time to teach about the impending day of j…

The vision of the “Sheep and Goats” in Matthew’s gospel is a perplexing bit of scripture. On the surface, it reduces inclusion in the reign of God to those who do good works—no room for grace. On the surface, it condemns the unrighteous to eternal damnation and the fires of hell. Neither notion jibes with the story of Jesus very well. So, what is J…

He thinks the apparition is caused by some bad foo he ate. This thanksgiving, I’m sure more than one of us will be like Scrooge, not…
