Donnie Hammond is a two-time winner on the Professional Golf Association Tour. He will be joining Mick & Mook on May 18th.
Donnie will recap the Masters Tournament for Billy and Frank and preview the remaining three upcoming majors starting with the PGA Championship at Southern Hills Country Club.
Hammond was born in Fredrick, Maryland and attended Jacksonville University where he was a member of the golf team. He turned pro in 1979 and joined the PGA tour in 1983. Donnie earned his tour card by finishing first at the 1982 Tour Qualifying School by a record 14 strokes.
In 1986, Donnie won the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic and followed up two years later with a 7-stroke victory over Paul Azinger in the Texas Open, where he came within one stroke of the PGA scoring record.
Donnie amassed 40 Top 10 finishes in his career and made the cut in 21 of the 27 majors in which he participated, including a 5th and 8th place finish in the Open Championship. He was in the second to the last group going into the final round in the 1986 Masters, trailing Greg Norman by one shot, before he and the entire field were surpassed by eventual winner Jack Nicklaus’ memorable closing round score of 65.
When he turned fifty years-old Donnie continued his career on the Champions Tour.
Along with NBA great, Artis Gilmore, Donnie is a charter member of the Jacksonville University Hall of Fame.
