We are here for racial justice and loved reading about Starr as she decides to fight the injustice in her life. There are some very significant differences between the book and movie that change whole the meaning of T.H.U.G.L.I.F.E. as it affects the Carter family. We missed the references to Fresh Prince that were constant in the book and think that Chris got the “girlfriend treatment.”

Episode Drink: Milk

Fortify your body so you can go out and protest for longer. Plus, it’s handy to have on hand in case things escalate and some trash police officer tries to pepper spray you.

Places to show your support for the movement:

George Floyd Memorial Fund

Minnesota Freedom Fund

Black Visions Collective

Reclaim the Block

Campaign Zero

Anti-Racism Resources

Bail Funds/Legal Help

Our Drinking Game for this Story

Take a drink:

  • Anyone says “king”
  • Sekani acts like a little brother
  • You see news coverage
  • Harry Potter is mentioned
  • The movie title is explained
  • And down your drink when you’ve had it with the injustice in the world and you’re ready to get out there and protest

Fantastic Reads

Em: How to be an Anti-Racist by Ibram X. Kendi
