Born and raised in Sarajevo, art has been a central part of Šejla’s life since childhood. An introvert, she used her work to communicate and share the loss, horror, sadness and personal tragedy of the war, as Yugoslavia fractured and split around her. Often controversial, we discuss the motivation behind many of her works including the famous “Bosnian Girl” (2003) tinyurl.com/z2wna33 and the ambitious “From One, Learn All” (2015) tinyurl.com/jbotsgs – a forensically-driven memorial to Bosnia’s wartime lost and missing.
