Throughout my ministry I have had some form of thefollowing question is it okay to use the music of ungodly composers andsongwriters in your ministry This question could certainly be asked of otherChristian artists and creators such as authors and preachers The question islikely not derived from thoughts of their work but rather their lives In myexperience it has been asked out of a genuine concern for Gods people and howusing such peoples work will impact the local church Years ago a prominentChristian musician to which I grew up listening professed his own homosexualitywhile I was serving in a local church fellowship I am still asked questionsabout whether it is wrong or right to use his music While I openly admit thathis decision has had drastic negative effects on professing Christians we shouldassess whether using his music is still acceptableAlthough we should test and measureeverything we allow into our lives I would like to examine how to respond tothe music of ungodly composers songwriters and hymnwriters I firmlybelieve that it is acceptable and even good to use the music of anyoneirrespective of the composers lifestyle if the music is created within thebounds of certain parameters namely correct theology Regarding this topicthen I have four thoughts concerning the churchs use of ungodly composersmusic
