ACTivate is a monthly show brought to you by the Christchurch branch of Amnesty International Aotearoa/New Zealand, an organisation dedicated to campaigning for human rights. Since its inception in 1961, Amnesty International has grown into an organisation of over 7 million people in 150 countries, all united by their desire to prevent and end grave abuses of human rights, and to demand justice for those whose rights have been violated. ACTivate covers human rights stories from New Zealand and abroad, and reports on the good news of human rights victories. Interviews with individuals whose role or work is somehow connected to human rights give a more personal perspective on human rights in Canterbury. The show also includes some music that the presenters enjoy, and they hope you will enjoy it too! Presented by Stefan, Catherine and Greg, ACTivate hopes to inspire you to begin or continue to fight for human rights, and raise awareness in our local community of Christchurch. Join Greg, Stefan and Catherine from 9.30pm on the third Monday of every month for an update of what Amnesty International is up to in Christchurch, the latest developments in human rights issues around the globe, interviews, success stories and how you can get involved defending human rights. A little on our presenters... Stefan works as a doctor at the Christchurch Public Hospital, and has been involved with Amnesty International for around 20 years. Stefan is currently the Chairperson of the local Christchurch Amnesty group. Stefan created ACTivate alongside Greg and Catherine in order to give greater exposure to human rights in Canterbury and to inspire people to act for change. Greg is a proud Southlander from Invercargill. When he’s not doing his government day job, he loves reading, movies, playing music and spending time with his wife Kim and kids Ben and Emily. Greg helped set up ACTivate through the Amnesty International Christchurch Regional Team. Greg has been an Amnesty member for over 20 years, and was also involved in alternative radio in Wellington at Radio Active in the late 1990’s. Catherine has been involved with Amnesty in Christchurch since 2006. Catherine is a mother and works part time as a lawyer. Catherine enjoys gardening, cooking, the outdoors and anything political. Kerry is a writer and editor working freelance in Christchurch, and she has been involved with the local Amnesty International group since she moved to Christchurch in 2013. She joined the ACTivate show’s team a year into its current run. Kerry loves to read, write, go to the movies and go to the beach, and she’s also an active campaigner on local and international environmental issues.’
