Si Ludovic Navarre avait choisi pour Saint Germain la fusion house-jazz propre sur elle, Motorbass sent la sueur du dance-floor, la crasse funk et le défoulement house. La production est magistralement sale et complexe, passée dans trente-six filtres et remoulinée, laissant de l’espace à la mélodie sans oublier l’énergie sauvage. De la rage de Flying fingers à la subtilité de Neptune, du tubesque Wan dence à l’hypnotique Ezio, jamais Motorbass n’oublie l’essentiel ­ ce groove qui manque si souvent aux albums house et techno. On pourrait s’amuser de son obsession pour la “blaxploitation” (excellents logos et jolie pochette) si le groupe ne savait jouer que petit-Blanc. Mais cette troupe pas vraiment du type “objet-musical-non-identifié-surgi-de-nulle-part-de-la-chambre-d’un-génie-en-herbe” ­ puisqu’on retrouve derrière Motorbass Philippe Zdar, ingénieur du son de MC Solaar et moitié de La Funk Mob, en bonne compagnie d’Etienne de Crécy ­ signe ici un grand album de musique black, même si uniquement jouée par des Blancs. Avec la sortie simultanée du maxi de L’Homme qui valait 3 milliards, tube plus que potentiel, la voie royale sera presque une balade de santé.
