There are approximately 18 million needlessly blind people in the world. A ten minute surgery with a $25 materials cost is rapidly changing that. With over six hundred thousand surgeries done, the Himalayan Cataract Project (HCP) is on a mission to eradicate preventable and curable blindness in the developing world. Since 2005, HCP has trained over 300 ophthalmic personnel from 19 countries. I talked with one of the founders, Dr. Geoff Tabin about HCP and the life changing work they are doing.
