Aristotle: Areté

Aristotle (300’s BC) was the most prolific philosopher of Ancient Greece, and arguably the most influential. His contributions crossed virtually every domain of human knowledge which existed then, and endured as the benchmark for great periods of time in many of them. In this episode I pay homage to this immense historical legacy before turning to the question of which Aristotelian ideas may be fruitful now. In doing so, I make the claim that both his ethics and politics still have something vital teach us – that there is an intimate connection between habits, actions, politics and the possibility of flourishing.
