Breathing, we all do it - and, at times, we may have a harder time than others keeping our lungs, throat and sinuses in optimum health. Essential oils, whether applied directly to skin, inhaled, or diffused with a cold air diffuser, can be very effective in supporting respiratory health.

I'm in Santa Barbara, where several homes have burned down in one of the largest wildfires in California history. Residents here are encouraged to wear N-95 masks, and not sweep up or come into contact with soot and ash that's fallen like snow across sidewalks and yards.

Like many others, I had a sore throat, itchy eyes and was fatigued. Here are some of the essential oils that I've been using to keep from being overcome by soot and smoke in the air:

R.C. This blend which includes eucalyptus, pine, marjoram, lavender and peppermint will make you want to breathe deeper. I apply one drop in the palm of my hand, rub my hands together, tent over my nose and inhale.... really soothing on the lungs and sinuses (and R.C. comes in your Premium Starter Kit available at AromaThrive.com)

Peppermint is a very versatile essential oil - it can remind you of holidays past, candy canes, or peppermint cocoa. It can also clear a stuffy nose. I always have peppermint in my purse, and will lick one drop after meals to freshen breath. Peppermint is another oil that comes in the Premium Starter Kit available at AromaThrive.com

Raven Blends wintergreen, peppermint and Ravintsara, lemon and eucalyptus for a more powerful support for upper respiratory problems or viral infections. Super strong

Ravintsara is a powerful antiviral, antibacterial, anti-fungal and anti-infectious oil which may help open and strengthen the respiratory system. Its fresh scent reminds me of yoga!

You can support wellness and a strong respiratory system regardless of which oil you choose. Diffusing these nature's essences in your living space is a gentle way to kill bacteria and germs while promoting calm and wellness.
