According to research from Texas A&M Health Science Center School of Public Health, standing desks are one way to increase general well-being in the workplace. Moreover, in the six month study, the research showed that employees who had stand-capable workstations were 46% more productive than those with traditional seated desk configurations. Mr. David Prince, an industrial designer who has worked on stand-up desks, suggests simple acts throughout the day that will help increase wellness and productivity within the workplace: Be a proponent for yourself by requesting a sit/stand desk option or mobile workstations. Incorporate simple movements that fit in your daily routine – set a timer for the top and bottom of every hour as a reminder to at least switch positions or walk to get a drink of water Encourage stand-up meetings - both more efficient and healthier than traditional sit-down meetings. Move about the office – identify locations where mobile workstations like LearnFit would be a good alternative “Traditional desks and stationary work environments ignore an important aspect of human health – that we were designed to move. Creating work spaces that support movement can boost productivity, health and overall well-being.” Dave Prince, Ergotron Industrial Designer, can speak to how stationary desks ignore the human body; the mechanics behind a sit/stand lifestyle; why getting more movement throughout the day can be easy.
