Manage episode 191440834 series 1443894
Superwoman is not a myth. Some people do seem to do it all. Lauren Lipsey is one of those people.
She is Vice President of Community Programs at the Humane Rescue Alliance in Washington, DC. She is an athlete in every sense of the word...swimming, biking, and running her way to triathlon finish lines across the US, including the IRONMAN 70.3. She’s getting her MBA at George Washington University. And on top of all that, she has two dogs and a cat that demand their fair share of attention.
Time management skills? Expert.
This kind of balancing act takes structure, priorities and dedication.
On this episode of Art of Doing, we explore how those characteristics have contributed to her success as an athlete, and as a voice for the furry creatures (and human beings) that she supports everyday.
Simply and beautifully put, she says she has the “desire to be not just another person using up earth's resources. I have strengths and abilities, and I should not take those for granted.”
_____She sets her sights on big goals, like an IRONMAN 70.3, with the full intention of achieving them. And with that in mind, there is just is no giving up. Simple as that. When it comes to pushing yourself beyond a limit that you thought you had, “It just teaches you and shows you how freakin’ capable we are as human beings. It feels good to be strong. It’s kind of awesome to push yourself to the limit.”
Lauren says she is “singularly driven by goals”, but not always by one singular goal. She is a proponent of always having several things going on. One goal is not enough for this high achieving, woman of action. One reason for setting multiple goals is that when one thing isn’t going great one day, you can focus on another goal and come back to the other one tomorrow with fresh perspective.
She stays focused with a straightforward, nonchalant attitude. “I can only control the things I can control--so energy and time spent thinking or worrying about anything else is a waste of time. Instead I'll focus on doing the things I can control really, really well.” Then you move on. Move forward.
She embodies the ‘Art of Doing’. She doesn’t waste any time, she savors the moment. She is a true inspiration to fully let go of the past, not have anxiety about the future and focus on the NOW.
To all of that we say F YEAH!
