Rest time is not waste time. It is economy to gather fresh strength. It is wisdom to take occasional furlough. In the long run, we shall do more by sometimes doing less. Charles Spurgeon
In this first week of a new series, Derek and Corrie dive into the area of weariness in the life of the believer. Burn out, stress, feeling tired...these are all natural things we can feel from time to time. But how are we called to balance the demands of life as we trust in Jesus? The example of Mary (from Mary and Martha) is one we can look to. Mary chose what was best when it came to being with Jesus. She was after His presence and in that place, she found rest and renewal. She found His heart.
We know Jesus calls to us: "Come to Me and I will give you rest." But the offer can be rejected. We can dismiss the invitation to His presence and try instead to do things our own way. When we do, we miss the opportunity to draw near and we take upon ourselves the weight of our burden. What a freeing thought to know He doesn't add to the burden. When we come to Him, His yoke is easy. His burden is light. Mary found this out. May we also!
