So, what is this? Who am I, what do I have to say?

Hi, I'm Justin, I'm a tech guy at a medium-large church in Lansing, Michigan. I've been doing audio visual work full time for about a year now. Which is just enough to realize how little I know! Over the past year I've already had plenty of events to execute, problems to solve, processes to create, and gear to buy and I want to share those experiences with you.

Who are you? Oh... this is awkward. Well, due to the great anonymity that the Internet provides I have no idea who you are! But, for my sake, I'll pretend I'm talking to guys and gals interested in the audio visual field as a volunteer or as a career. I work in the religious sector of AV, but there are plenty of others, so I will try to not limit myself by just speaking to a church AV audience. You may be someone who's been around in the AV industry a long time. Awesome! Teach me a thing or two when I get things wrong, which is inevitably going to happen.

I have no formal AV training; which means two things. One, anyone can learn and be successful at it if you work hard and learn constantly. Two, I'm going to get to learn a lot with you. As I do upgrades, solve issues, and create processes I'll document them and share these things so you can learn with me.

So is this a blog or a podcast? Eh... both? It's a blog if you just want to read and I'll put up a podcast if you just want to listen. Typing and posting to a blog is easier for me. But listening is (probably) easier for you. Or maybe I'm just projecting my own preferences. Anyway, I'll do both to start out and see which one sticks!

Why AV Wizard? Am I just a huge nerd and imagine myself with a wand or staff and a pointy hat? Well... maybe sometimes. But, the idea stuck a few months ago when one of our pastors mentioned from the pulpit that we don't really need all of this technological "wizardry" in order to make Sunday worship services happen. I mostly agree with him, AV is a small part of what happens on Sundays for churches. But it's complex, takes a while to learn, and most people have no idea how it all works, so "wizardry" is not an entirely inaccurate word. If AV is wizardry and I know a little about AV, therefore... I'm a wizard. (Still waiting for the official wax sealed, owl delivered letter though...)

Stick around and see if you hear or read something you like.
