TW: discussion of suicide and MH from 4:30-7:30 This week for “Currento Eventos” we’re discussing the growing number of suicide among women doctors/residents and especially at Mt. Sinai St. Luke’s hospital here in NYC, the flu is hitting hella hard this year #GetUrFluShot, and the tumblr famous anime ‘Yuri On Ice’ makes an appearance at the Olympics! In “What’s Your Baggage” we talk about the NYC grind and what it feels like when the city you love doesn’t love you back? Does NYC or the places we call home owe us anything? What do we owe it? “Put it in your Bag:” This week Lina puts in her bag the album ‘Aguas’ by the Dominican trio MULA and Estephani puts the Netflix reboot of Queer Eye (formerly for the straight guy). Finally for our rotating theme being that it’s still BLACK HISTORY MONTH we’re celebrating the Black people who have inspired us this week. Estephanie talks about her fear of flying and learning about Bessie Coleman and Lina talks about the song by MULA “Espejos en Las Azoteas (1965)” dedicated to the troop ‘La Chancleta’ a group of trans and queer people who served during the Dominican Civil War in 1965 but who are erased from the official history of the conflict. And we have our new weekly affirmation at the end! Use #UnpackBG to let us know what Black people have inspired you this past week in big or small ways!
