The food police. I think we all struggle with a version of those ‘food police’ in our heads, and I’m no exception to this. The thing is; the food police are everywhere. They come in the form of ‘food fears.’ They’re on Facebook, Instagram, Google, and more, and they can be really overwhelming. Do you relate to what I’m talking about yet? I don’t think I started confronting the food police, honestly, until I was exposed to the internet. I started to discover … health, or health as I thought it was.
And the food police rushed in like a gang of ruffians. The fears about what that certain food would do to my body flooded into my mind.
How do the food police show up?
‘Oh you definitely shouldn’t eat dessert twice in a day, because you might die earlier from eating too much dessert.’
‘Those chips have WAY too much salt. They could cause you to have a heart attack.’
‘Did you say ‘FAT?’ Fat makes you fat, ok, so don’t drink that full fat milk or eat that spoon of peanut butter.’
God made good food because God is good. #goodfood #recovery #foodpolice

They make you question that God is good.
‘So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so. And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.’ (Genesis 1:27-31)
But God is good. God made good food. God made peanuts. God made animals. He told us to take dominion of them, so is it wrong to enjoy the full fatty delicious taste of peanuts, walnuts, cashews, and more?
Why are we so frightened of these foods? I believe a lot of our fears of these delicious foods are unfounded, but they are real fears, so how do we conquer them?
I think there are many reasons, but I’m going to leave those questions to my podcast interviewee for today: NICOLE!
I met Nicole via…. INSTAGRAM! She also blogs at ‘Trying to Be Nicole.‘
The thing I noticed about Nicole is that she was very matter of fact and aggressive about conquering the fear foods that confront you in a disordered relationship with food. That’s why I reached out to her to talk about the struggle with the ‘Food Police.’ She was very straightforward and to the point, and I loved her direct way of approaching the matter.

Now, Nicole readily confesses that she is NOT 100% recovered, but that’s why I reached out to her. She’s in the midst of the struggle herself, and God is using her to come alongside girls and guys with compassion and truth and encourage them to conquer those food fears.
