On the heels of my 45th birthday, which was largely a very special and lovely day, I bring to you the process of working through an argument with the one I love. What happens when we lead with our egos and take things personally? We end up in a fruitless battle and everyone ends up hurt. It's even worse when there are high expectations in the mix! Our egos are often disguised and we don't realize we've brought them to the party until they explode and cause a breakdown we weren't expecting. So, what we do in this happens? In a perfect world, we would avoid it at all costs by leading with our authentic selves and recognizing what's what. That takes a lot of work! We've got to go easy on ourselves and know that we will make mistakes. So when our egos do bump up against other peoples, we just have to become aware in that moment or that day or as soon as we can and step back, take a breath, get into our hearts, and acknowledge the pain that has occurred, that we may have caused, apologize, be curious and compassionate and find a way to move on. Also, keep your expectations in check. Having too high of expectations for any given day can often lead to pain and disappointment. Go in openly, ready for anything, work on not taking anything personally that people say, and life will flow so much more freely and easily. As always, I am here doing the work with you! I hope this is helpful when you have your next collision of egos with the one you love. Resources I share in this episode include A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle, The Work by Byron Katie, and The Four Areements.
