When it comes to retirement, old age and pension plan, African parents generally expect help from family network in old age. Receiving financial support from children is a thing of pride in the African culture. In most families, the norm is that as parents get older, they end up in one of their children's houses to be looked after. That is somewhat different from the western culture where living in old peoples' homes is expected once you get to a certain age irrespective of if you have children or not.

In today's podcast, Bimbola and Jo talked about their own upbringing and beliefs regarding this topic.
