The sad fact is most school lunch programs don’t offer children nutritious foods.

And when children are not eating healthy—especially during the school day—it makes it hard for them to concentrate, stay fully engaged and learn new information.

But here’s some good news: There’s a movement happening right now to change the way children are fed at school.

And at the head of this movement is the famous chef, Ann Cooper, also known as the “Renegade Lunch Lady.” (Have you heard of Jamie Oliver? Well, Chef Ann has worked closely with him to advocate for healthier foods and nutrition education in schools.)

I invited Chef Ann to the show to discuss the truth about the foods being served in our schools, why you should care and what you can do to help make a difference in the lives of our children.

Here are some of the topics Chef Ann and I discuss:

* The harmful ingredients kids are being served in standard school lunch programs.

* How starvation and malnourishment impacts a child’s ability to learn.

* Why chicken nuggets and tater tots should NOT be part of a child’s lunch.

* The benefits that teachers observe in children when they eat real, whole foods. (One of those benefits has to do with the students’ behavior in the classroom.)

* Simple ways you can encourage your children and grandchildren to eat better.

* How you can get involved to make sure healthy food is being served at your children or grandchildren’s schools.

If you have young children in your life you’re really going to appreciate this interview.

If you have a friend or family member who could benefit from this information please share it with her.

And if you have a minute, please leave me a quick review on iTunes—I love to hear from you!
