6 Rules to Follow When Writing Your Own Self Help Book

After gathering information passively for 2 years Nicole Purvy was able to write a book based on real life evidence in 3 weeks, The Anti Hustle . In this podcast episode Nicole Purvy shares the 6 steps to writing a self help book that will help in the process of anyone who is writing or wants to write their own book.

#1- Ask yourself “What is my intention?”

Your intention for writing a book should be very clear before actually writing the book. Deciding whether you are writing just for leisure or writing for a purpose is very important in the beginning stage of your book. You need to have a real reason to why you are writing your own book. Nicole explains her intention of writing her very own book which was to show people why hustling is not the right way to running a business.

How to take your story and make it so that people care?

“You have something inside of you that the world needs to hear”- Nicole Purvy.

#2- Be sure you know how to write or consider hiring a ghost writer

Knowing how to write is essential in the process of writing a self-help book. Your audience is depending on your knowledge and the better you know how to write the more credible your book will be.

#3- Any good book should be a “cultural divergence”

“Cultural divergence” is the idea of introducing something new to the world that people cant get anywhere else.

What is the over achieving goal that you want to achieve? What single item do you want your readers to learn when they are done reading your book?

#4- Tell real life stories to drive your point home

Having real life evidence gives people a real life feel of what you experinced while writing a self-help book. Nicole wrote down failure and success stories, lessons she learned on her business journey, and anything she coculd remember in her notes to back up her book, The Anti Hustle "Starting a Six Figure Business in One Year" .

#5- Present an idea and use your story to prove your casce

Are you a living proof of your concept? If so, you can prove your ideas in your own book. Nicole Purvy talks how she is able to prove how she managed to start her own business in her book rather than using the book to tell her story.

#6- Create/Follow a formula

Nicole Purvy references Shakespare and the Save The Cat book to encourage listeners who want to write a book to use a formula. The two references she refers to are good examples of success storylines and how to use a formula in the process of writing a book.

“Use formulas to solve your problems. Formulas are completely essential” - Nicole Purvy
