The Headmistress and the Millionaire Doctor and The Burning of Mary Channing...

In 1980, Jean Harris, the headmistress of the prestigious Madeira School for girls in McLean, Virginia, made national headlines after the murder of her lover Dr. Herman Tarnower, a wealthy cardiologist and author of the best-selling book The Scarsdale Diet.

Mary Channing liked to party, which was a frowned upon in Dorchester, England in the early 1700s. After being forced into an arranged marriage by her parents, Mary would go to murderous lengths to be free again.
