Bmore Just Like That – S01E03 – Eric Allen Hatch Director of Programming for the Maryland Film Festival

Eric Allen Hatch

Eric Allen Hatch is the director of programming for the Maryland Film Festival, where he has worked since 2007. At the festival, Eric oversees the programming for both the annual 5-day MDFF, as well as the festival’s year-round events, which in the coming years will include 3 screens of 365-days-a-year programming at the restored and expanded Parkway Theatre on the corner of Charles and North Avenue (targeted to open in Spring 2017).

Eric has lived in Baltimore since 1996. From 1997 to 2006, Eric contributed hundreds of film, music, and literature reviews to Baltimore’s City Paper. From 1998 to 2004, Eric was also the manager of Video Americain’s Charles Village location. In the late ‘90s, he co-founded the Red Room Collective, the organization behind the High Zero Festival, an internationally lauded festival dedicated to experimental and improvised music. In 2005, he founded, programmed, and hosted the Baltimore Museum of Art’s Free First Thursdays Film Series, a free-to-the-public monthly film series that ran through the summer of 2008, championing visionary international cinema of the 1960s and ‘70s. Eric was a member of the screening committee for Baltimore’s MicroCineFest, one of the country’s premiere underground film and video festivals. He has also DJ’d soul, hip-hop, Brazilian, and African music at such venues as the Ottobar, the Talking Head, Floristree, the Windup Space, and the Golden West. Recently, Eric has contributed writing on film to Acres, and has served as both a film juror and film mentor for the SXSW Film Festival and Conference.

In his spare time, Eric collects records, blu-rays, and jpegs of Baltimore’s streetcar system and historic movie theaters. You can find him offering emoji synopses of transgressive films and photoshopping Paul Blart into Tarkovsky movies on Twitter: @ericallenhatch.
