"You have to know that it is temporary - while you are creating it is sometimes a frenzy, it is sometimes all consuming, and it just takes all of your time and attention, energy and resources. But it's not going to last forever, there's always going to be a light at the end of the tunnel that isn't an oncoming train." - Sarah, on the creative process

What We're Reading:

Grace:

Saga Volume 6 by Brian K. Vaughn and Fiona Staples

Rachel Rising Volume 1 The Shadow of Death by Terry Moore

The Leftovers by Tom Perrotta

Bird Box by Josh Malerman

Sarah:

All American Boys by Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely

If I Was Your Girl by Meredith Russo

Another Brooklyn by Jacqueline Woodson

Where Am I Now?: True Stories of Girlhood and Accidental Fame by Mara Wilson

The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo

Start your own book club!

1. Pick a genre or a topic. (It can be as broad or as defined as you want.)

2. Who is hosting the discussion each month (always you, or do you want a rotating moderator)?Where will the book club meet (bookstore, home, cafe, restaurant)?

3. Make some guidelines for your book choices, so members know how to suggest books. Do you only read paperbacks? Do you only

4. Have questions prepared. Here are some that work for any book: "Did you identify with any character?" "What piece of advice would you give ____ (character)?" "What would you put on a mixtape for ___ (character)?"

5. Make sure whoever is moderating balances the conversation. Some people talk a lot, and can dominate a discussion. You can balance that by calling on quieter attendees to share their feelings, and bringing them into the conversation more.

6. If there are triggers in a book, make sure you remind people to be sensitive while discussing certain scenes. Sarah uses an oops/ouch system.

7. Bring snacks! Tell your attendees to bring snacks too. Snacks!
