On the Friday March 22nd, 1946 episode of Bill Stern's Sports Newsreel, which was sponsored by Colgate and aired on NBC at 10:30PM, Bill Stern's guest was the Bambino himself, Babe Ruth. Bill Stern dramatized sporting events from the past. His standard introduction indicated his dramatic approach to storytelling: "Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. This is Bill Stern bringing you the ____th edition of the Colgate shave cream Sports Newsreel, featuring strange and fantastic stories—some legend, some hearsay, but all so interesting we'd like to pass them along to you! In the episode, Bill Stern told a story about how famed Gold-miner Harry Oakes encountered a boy in a Baltimore orphanage at the turn of the 20th Century. What happened next is both incredibly entertaining and possibly apocryphal. Later, Babe Ruth asked and answered questions of Stern's. This is a clip that won't wind up making the next episode of Breaking Walls in its entirety due to time issues, but it's too good not to share here.
