This is a snippet from Breaking Walls Episode 90: The Hollywood People Behind Radio’s Baby Boomer Boom (1945 - 1954). In 1952, Jack Johnstone was directing the American Bakers-sponsored Hollywood Star Playhouse, an NBC anthology series running Sunday at 5PM. On April 13th, the show premiered a western starring Jimmy Stewart as Brit Ponsett. It was called, “The Six Shooter.” An audition record was recorded a little over a year later on July 15th, 1953 after Stewart finished production of a cowboy film, The Naked Spur. Next, he went to finish filming Thunder Bay, which wrapped production in late summer. The Six Shooter debuted on Sunday September 20th at 9:30PM Eastern time on all NBC stations.
