In Alchemists, two to four budding alchemists compete to discover the secrets of their mystical art. Points can be earned in various ways, but most points are earned by publishing theories – correct theories, that is — and therein lies the problem.
In XCOM: The Board Game [our review], you and up to three friends assume the roles of the leaders of the elite, international organization known as XCOM. It is your job to defend humanity, quell the rising panic, and turn back the alien invasion.
Shop ‘N Time [our review] is a real-time, app-assisted card game with simple rules. In the basic game mode, “Price Target,” each player is given the same budget, then dealt a hand of seven cards. You pick one to purchase, pass the rest, possibly pick another, then pass, etc., and you keep going until you have at least three cards but think the price of those items is still within your budget. Once everyone passes, each player scans the items they’ve purchased to see who’s come closest to spending the budget without going over.
In Werewords [our review], players guess a secret word by asking yes-or-no questions. Figure out the magic word before time is up, and you win! However, one of the players is secretly a werewolf who is not only working against you but also knows the word. If you don’t guess the word in time, you can still win by identifying the werewolf!
Mask of Anubis is a mixture of VR (virtual reality) and a board game with a free application included that converts your smartphone into VR goggles! The purpose of the game is for players to cooperate to create a map of the maze. On a turn, one player lands on one point of the maze and gets a 360º view of the maze by wearing VR goggles with a smartphone inserted. This player explains to the team members what they see, and their teammates attempt to use this description to create part of the map of the maze.
