This week Taylor and Mads introduce their new podcast 'Burning Boat Business'. They run through the history of the business, decide on a name for the podcast and review a new monthly challenge. In this episode we talk about how Taylor and I first decided we wanted to start a production company together. After crowdfunding our first feature length film we had the gear and enthusiasm needed to continue working together. We stayed in touch via Skype trying to decide what our company should be. Over the course of a year we went from a camera rental business to a film/video/social media production company. Completing the filming of Taylor's first feature length film in New York marked a year of living on different continents. In 2 weeks Taylor is finally moving to Copenhagen and together we will begin working on building the company in 3 ways. 1. Film production (feature length films, documentaries, short films) 2. Video production (freelancing, promotional videos, music videos) 3. Content creation (social media, youtube, blog, podcast, instagram, twitter, facebook) In this first episode we also talk about how we came up with our company name 'Burning Boat'. The concept of burning boats traces back to one of history’s most inspiring leadership stories in 1519. Hernán Cortés led a large expedition consisting of 600 Spaniards, 16 or so horses, and 11 boats to Mexico. The goal: capture a magnificent treasure said to be held there. Upon arrival, Cortés made history by destroying his ships. This sent a clear message to his men: There is no turning back. They either win or they perish. Although you might assume that Cortés’ men would have become despondent, with no exit strategy in place to save their lives, they instead rallied behind their leader as never before. Within two years, he succeeded in his conquest of the Aztec empire. Finally we also spend some time in the podcast actually deciding on what to call the podcast and what we want to do with it. We want Burning Boat Business to be a place of transparency where we can discuss elements of the business that need revising and what is working well. If you want to follow our progress and get an insight into our mindsets consider subscribing!
