Stephanie Davies is recognized as one of UK's leading voices in happiness, humour, and laughter. She is a global speaker on the subject. She's been working with projects and events in the public sector, doing everything from curating happy learning spaces and environments, to motivating and inspiring individuals, as well as teams.

Stephanie has managed to combine award-winning stand-up comedy, and, expertise and experience in psychology in business. This made her one of the most sought after speakers and presenters on the business and after-dinner circuit. She makes her presentations fun, and informative!

In this episode, Stephanie shares with us that learning and development should be fun, it should be an enjoyable experience, because these make the brain work better.

We also talked about how organisations have a fundamental obligation to really make sure that their people are happy, that they are developed, and also that they are well.

Stephanie also shared with us how when she started her career 15 years ago, people told her that her business model will never work, yet, she is where she is right now. It’s a changing world, and we need to continually adapt!

Stephanie shares that her business model is a result of her experiences in school. She talks about how there is a different way to learning, to doing business. As she was once disengaged at school, she became passionate that there is a different way to educate, there is a different way to engage young people.

She talked about how in college, she was interested in comedy, and she wrote her dissertation about women in comedy, and how stand-up comedy became an avenue to talk about women’s rights, a different way of thinking, about women in performance, and in the world. And because she had to do a performance to match her dissertation, she started her stage performances as a stand-up comedienne.

We discussed about the importance of engagement, may it be employee engagement, or with your audience. We talked about the importance of being able to connect with the people that we are working with. And we talked about humour, as an instrument to engagement and connection, and how in organisations, improving engagement means, increasing profits as well.

Stephanie pointed out how organisations should look externally how to feed their profits back to the community where their employees live, because these people matter -- and happy employees are productive. We also talked about the importance of support network in the organisation.

Lastly, Stephanie shares 5 main drivers of happiness, and they are:

Golden Nugget Round

Question 1 – What would you tell your 25 Year Old Self?

Just do you, don’t worry too much about what other people think. And don’t take that loan from the bank, they’re lying to you, you don’t really need it. Just take a seat back and think. And be confident in your own decisions.

Question 2 – What would you Lecturer at University today?

I should say happiness, but I lecture that all the time. I would love to talk about starting a business, and to young entrepreneurs about thinking differently, and business scales, and what that actually means in real life.

Question 3 – What was your biggest investment or financial decision?

My first house.
