Tommy Gentleman is a personal development consultant, a life coach, personal trainer, and a fitness expert – all that at the age of 29! Today, he will help us start the year off right by sharing with us his best tips, techniques, and tricks on how to get back into shape (after the holidays), and how to stay focused continually on our fitness throughout the year.
In this episode, we talk about how Tommy found his “WHY”, and how his family has responded to it as he discovered it at a relatively young age.
Tommy shared how in the fitness industry it is important that you develop a culture, rather than simply offering services.
We also talked about why most of us are very eager to work on our fitness in January, but never really follow through for the rest of the year. He covers how you become “excuse-proof” when it comes to working out.
We also discussed three habits that we could all do that will help us in our quest of losing those extra pounds. And they are:
- Eat slower – If you do so, you are changing the rhythm of your action and physical behaviour, therefore you are challenging your mind to notice that it’s different.
- Move a little bit more – Use the stairs instead of the lift!
- Involve other people – You are at your best when you get the support of the people closest to you.
In this episode we also tackled how sometimes it is difficult for some people to take the first step towards a better health and fitness practice. Tommy shares that there are two ways that people are challenged to change, it is either they had an experience that scared them OR they get inspired.
Personal philosophy is key and this has to be as genuine and as honest, as organic, and as open as much as possible in order to inspire others.
Tommy and I discussed the importance of knowing the power of your responsibility because the things we do creates expectations (in terms of the HOW, the WHAT, and the WHY).
Tommy pointed out how you are your own business, and the business is you, thus you need to take care of every part of you.
The 5 P’s that will change when you go all in on your are health:
- Passion – increases when you are more passionate about yourself.
- Productivity – you get more things done when you have more energy.
- Positivity – you get less mood swings when your blood sugar is being regulated.
- Presence – you will have more energy to spend with your family.
- Power – this means whatever it means to you.
Lastly, Tommy tackled the importance of having a PLAN!
