Manage episode 197505224 series 1532108
Carrying on with a fitness theme throughout my recent episodes, today we are joined by Gordon Burcham! Gordon is a multi-world award winning kickboxing champion, a business coach, a mentor, an author, and a black belt – he is indeed a well-accomplished man! But how did he become the man he is today? Did he have it easy? In this episode we get a glimpse of Gordon’s journey – the challenges he faced, and the backstory to his success.
In this episode, we discussed how (in business) two things are important:
- How good you are in your field – Gordon has a successful career in martial arts before opening his school
- You need to learn the “business” aspect of your organisation.
Gordon shared how important is a business mentor, as his passion for coaching started from a realisation that in his industry there are a lot of great martial arts teachers, but they lack the knowledge to really run their businesses.
He also emphasised the importance of PASSION and knowing your WHY, because your journey becomes easier when you love what you do.
Gordon was bullied when he was growing up, he did not have many friends and was scared of a lot of things. This changed when martial arts found him (Yes, he says it’s not the other way around)!
He also talked about his mum’s advice to stand up every time you get knocked down, for that’s the way you will win!
We also covered how success is not an overnight thing– you would still need to overcome a lot of challenges, hurdles, and problems for quite some time.
Gordon also tackled how important it is to do something that scares you – for that means you are living your life, and it gives you a chance for growth, including how your lack of confidence comes from thinking about doing something, or the fear of taking action.
If you fear it, do it! According to Gordon, we are way stronger than we give ourselves credit for.
One of Gordons best bits of advice is to continually work on your personal development. He talked about how important it is to draw ATTENTION to yourself, we live in a very busy world we need to grab attention towards you and your business.
Lastly, Gordon discussed the importance of doing what you love to do.
