Topic of the Week (6/9/23):

The Chief Administrative Law Judge of the Federal Maritime Commission just awarded a party almost $10M bucks! And the industry is a flutter with discussion. Let’s cut through the noise and talk about what this case is, and what it isn’t, and why you should be a little careful relying on it just yet.

The Maritime Professorᵀᴹ presents By Land and By Sea - an attorney breaking down the week in supply chain

with Lauren Beagen (Founder of The Maritime Professorᵀᴹ and Squall Strategies)

Let's dive in...

But first, our TOP THREE STORIES OF THE WEEK!

1- We're back on Federal Maritime Commission rulemaking watch. I expect some language to be released maybe as soon as next week - it is June 16th on Friday after all (the anniversary of OSRA 22's signing)!
Keep watching #ByLandAndBySea for all of the updates.

2- The International Longshore Warehouse Union and Pacific Maritime Association negotiation is seeing a rise of tensions again - this week seemingly over a denial of salary increase over the past four years and a PMA report saying that the average ILWU salary is $200,000 (which is also being contested by a commenter on one of Salvatore Mercogliano, Ph.D.'s posts).
The real question above all may be, who pays for D&D if the port shuts down during a labor strike..?

3- Canal de Panamá (Panama Canal) experiencing droughts not seen in over 70 years!
