“Prone to wander, Lord I feel it. Prone to leave the God I love” is a line from the song ‘Come Thou Fount’ that well-describes the heart of man. The many distractions of life can draw us away from the fountain of God.

There is no problem with the supply – God’s life-giving waters will never run dry. If we don’t drink continuously, we become spiritually dry, going nowhere, making no impact. God’s great desire is for us to drink from Him, and out of our innermost being will flow rivers of living water.

Into the Word

1. The condition to Jesus’ invitation in John 7: 37-38 is to be thirsty. What are some things we may use to substitute Jesus when thirsty?

2. What is significant about the use of ‘river’ to describe the Spirit’s work in our lives? Why is it that Christians seem to have dry thirsty lives when they should be like abounding rivers?

3. How does the world’s definition of wisdom differ from the Bible’s? How does one get wisdom from God?

4. What does it mean to come to Jesus and drink? Give some examples from the Bible that state the benefits of drinking from Jesus?

5. What do you dream about the impact being if we as a church were to continuously drink from God and carry God’s blessings to others? What impact do you hope to make for God this 2018?
