Meaghie Champion is a Capital Daily contributor and probably one of the most interesting writers on Vancouver Island. She's been a National Post columnist, she's founded a Coast Salish-based currency and she studied the Hul'q'umi'num language with the late Willie Seymour, who until his death in 2015 was one of only a few dozen fluent speakers of what was once the most widespread language on what is now Vancouver Island. In today's podcast, host Ben Waterworth chats with Meaghie about the importance of preserving the Hul'q'umi'num language and why she was one of the early advocates for mask wearing in the early days of the pandemic.
