We have done an episode on compensation in the past but things have changed a little bit, for the better and wanted to give an update!

  • The first thing I want to touch on is educating yourself.
  • Know what the market is like.
  • Supply and demand for your job.
  • Research your job's salary information.
  • Know before going into an interview, what you want to expect in a new role compensation wise.
  • You don't have to disclose your current compensation!
  • Be prepared to have a compensation conversation in your initial interview.
  • Legally you don't have to disclose what you're making.
  • However, there could be times where it makes sense to share so we can be well aligned and also seeing if there is any way to push to go above the initial range.
