COVID-19 has brought on many challenges within our healthcare systems. CVS recently announced the closure of pharmacies across the nation causing thousands of workers to lose their jobs. Other healthcare systems are scrambling to keep up due to shortages of workers. And at the same time, they are trying to stay afloat and to meet business needs. This has caused a decrease in empathy within patient care. In this week's conversation, Jake Galdo discusses with Randy McDonough, co-owner of Towncrest Pharmacy Corp, how to bring empathy back to your practice.

Host
Jake Galdo, PharmD, MBA, BCPS, BCGP
Course Content and Developer, CEimpact
Clinical Pharmacist, Ross Bridge Pharmacy
CEO, Seguridad, Inc

Guest

Randy P. McDonough, BS, MS, PharmD, BCGP, BCPS
CEO, Towncrest Pharmacy Corp
CIO, Seguridad, Inc

Takeaways

  1. The circumstances within healthcare, especially in pharmacy, are trying to meet high demands. Systems are short-staffed and struggling to maintain their business. Pharmacists are unable to display patient care with empathy as they are overworked and feeling depleted.
  2. Healthcare systems need to be disrupted in order to change what is happening. Our healthcare systems are going down a path that cannot be sustained.
  3. Place yourself in your patient's shoes. How would you view your practice? Start making changes now and return your focus on empathy with your patient care.
