In this episode of the podcast, I speak about the key data you want to track in your business.

MONEY

I don’t speak a lot about money or tracking your money in this episode because there are other episodes in the Change the Game series that cover this in detail. Here are two you might start with; Seven healthy money habits and Set yourself up for financial success.

Obviously the big thing is to track your income and expenditure. You might also consider where your audience is coming from and therefore, which currency you want to charge in. As a general rule, make the financial side of things as simple as possible for you so that you can allow more of it.

LIST SIZE

  • Track your subscriber numbers and open rate
  • Track your opt ins – what’s converting and what’s not?

SOCIAL MEDIA

  • Followers – understand what you’re building. If you’re building a business, then followers need to be converting to sales. If they’re not, then followers aren’t that useful to you
  • Might be able to use the numbers to help you to make a deal; a book deal for example, or to get speaking gigs for example
  • Measure the level of engagement – likes and comments
  • Talk about how to encourage engagement when you’ve got numbers but no engagement. For example, you can use fb adverts to increase engagement
  • Time of day and days that people engage with you and where they live

WEBSITE

  • Traffic – how many people are actually seeing your website?
  • Bounce rate – how many people are leaving after looking at just one page?
  • Session duration – how long are they staying on your site?
  • Traffic sources – where is the traffic coming from?

If you’d like a checklist of these and other data points to track each month, as well as handy hints about how to use the data you collect, you can pick that up here.

SHOW NOTES

In this episode I speak about ConvertKit – I love ConvertKit because it’s so easy to use. Immediately upon opening the home page I can see how many people have signed up for one of my opt ins, and I can see which opt in it is.

It’s super easy to set up email nurturing sequences for your new subscribers and to set up the emails for your online programs.

I also love their A/B testing options for headlines and I can easily segment my list during a launch with a quick click of a button so that I don’t keep emailing people I know aren’t interested in hearing any more about it. One day I’ll do a video on this but for now you can check them out here.

By the by, ConvertKit did a report on the state of blogging this year and guess what? Gender equity issues are showing up in the blogging work just as they are everywhere else.

Check out this statistic…

And guess what we’re blogging about?

See how useful data can be? ? You can check out the full report here if you’re keen to know more.
