Daniel Scott and Brian Macrae Davis

Daniel Scott is a traveling yoga and AcroYoga teacher. We caught up at Wanderlust in Snowshoe Resort in West Virginia. We talk about the dissatisfaction with his life before yoga and at 27 years old, he left New York and traveled the world. In doing so, he reinvented himself in a way that he could live honestly and happily, and get to see some amazing places around the world. For a while it was a fun way to live, but he began to look for a more rewarding experience and so he is transitioning to focusing on giving to students and communities something more than a physical workout.

Daniel gives his perspective on teaching with authenticity, on teaching by asking questions rather than providing answers. He explains that one’s success is not an indicator of one’s ability to teach; there are successful teachers that are not skillful teachers and the opposite is also true. When looking at his personal practice, he constantly asks himself, ‘What am I doing, where is this going and how does it feel.’ The answers to those questions guide his teaching. And during our conversation, he turn the tables and asks me a few questions.

If you haven’t heard, there is a big event coming up on Veteran’s Day. November 11th, 2017, all over the country, teachers will be running a class that is dedicated to the veterans of the U.S. military to honor their efforts and to bring awareness to the 22 veterans who commit suicide every day. All proceeds from the class will go to a scholarship fund that will send veterans to a yoga teacher training run by VEToga. VEToga was created by veterans, for veterans. You can learn more on the Facebook page for Boundless Service. You can sign up as a teacher or participant on the Boundless Service website. #HelpingVetsHelpVets
